I am Elroy Lee. I work in Republic Polytechnic’s Aquaculture facility, maintaining fish stocks and assisting with experiments. I graduated from Republic Polytechnic with a Diploma in Biotechnology with Merit. My education journey continues with the Interaction Design Foundation for UI/UX knowledge and Skillshare for Computer Science theory. At times, I help out with my friend’s startup in Melbourne with low and high fidelity wireframes, prototyping of the product and much more. I use this opportunity to hone my skills and prepare for the dive into the industry. My unrelenting curiosity and hands-on approach to learning have led me to do personal projects. These projects include building a homemade incubator to hatch eggs, brewing beer, making yoghurt and experimenting with Koji mold. My current project focuses on building my portfolio with case studies.
As far as I could recall, I always had a “why not” mindset. One morning when I was 10, I asked myself why isn’t there any orange flavoured milk? Needless to say, I made it and am not a fan of curdled milk for breakfast. To me, challenging concepts that others deemed permanent makes my creative juices flowing.
I love to think about the multiple possibilities to a problem and the myriad number of ways to solve them. I tend to jot down my crazy ideas onto my phone and review them once in a while to check for their viability in the current world situation. My secret to being creative? I cannot stop thinking.
I would love to be a Product Manager in the years to come. It will be a challenge for my time management and people relation skills. However, that is the only way I feel that I can grow in these areas professionally.
I learnt that by approaching business ideas with “20 cents solution for a million dollar problem” perspective, it will weed out cost-effective solutions. My manager who once owned multiple fish farms taught me this.
I would like to learn how to properly involve stakeholders in future UX research. UI/UX Designers cannot go far without support from the stakeholders.
