My name is Louis Puah and I grew up learning from and loving video games. My childhood aspiration was to become a game designer. I’m now a social entrepreneur, applying game design principles and user experience design to create educational experiences for teenage school-going youth. My organisation, Praxium, now focuses on helping these youth discover their paths and forge an amazing future for themselves.
My work and mission in life are decidedly in the education space. My hopes are that I’ll be able to contribute to changing the nature and future of Education in Singapore, and possibly the world. I love working with teenagers helping them figure out their passions, their identity and seeing the spark in their eyes as they grow and develop into talented individuals.
Learning is simply, fun! The world is filled with so much wonder, each field of knowledge filled with so much possibility. What I love even more is that learning a new piece of knowledge, or mastering a new field, allows me to appreciate “old knowledge” with a new lens. It’s like re-reading a book, re-watching a film. There will be new insights as we gain new experiences and knowledge, reinforcing our wisdom and view on the world.
Beyond that, the things I’ve been learning the past few years have simply allowed me to expand my capabilities. To do things I’ve never been able to before. To be able to produce digital products, to be able to prototype with electronics, to be able to speak in public better than before.
Video games and video media continue to inspire me, particularly those in science fiction. The deep and immersive plots, narratives, give me a vision of the future, or of alternate realities and possibilities - they touch my heart, they give me a new way to look at the world, a faith that I’m not alone and the world is more interesting than the mundane pursuits of wealth.
I’ve never ended up fully pursuing game design and creating games. I always feel that if I had more time, more spare capacity, I’d want to create board games, digital games, mobile games, applications, just for the fun of it. Doing this would allow me to deepen my skills in design, programming, art etc, and I would just love to be able to do that.
Learnt about this app called Festify that allows a group of people to collaboratively form a playlist. Could be pretty useful for the co-learning/co-working spaces that we work out of, to create a small sense of community simply through taste in music.
I’m pretty interested to learn about developing and maintaining a community, along with converting some into paying customers. The community allows me to better understand my customers and stakeholders, and create more value for them.
